Hello! My name is RICHARD A. MOSQUEDA (Pronouns: He/She/They)

I am a queer, Mexican-American theater director and producer committed to new works and genre-defying theatrical events by queer artists of color. My work centers the celebration, reflection, and showcasing of the queer community, with an emphasis on queer, Latine/x stories.

I have directed and developed work with New Conservatory Theatre Center, Shotgun Players, Portland Center Stage, TheatreFIRST, Theatre Rhinoceros, Custom Made Theatre, Pipeline Theatre Company, and Halcyon Theatre. BFA: The Theatre School at DePaul University.

INTERESTS & BELIEFS

  • I am passionate about New Work.

  • I almost exclusively work on productions that feature Queer Stories, Characters, and Sensibilities.

  • Showcasing and Empowering BIPOC and Latine/x/o/a Narratives

  • I am a firm believer of Theater as an Event. Attending a theatrical event should feel like A PARTY. Dancing, Call and Response, Cheering, and Laughing is encouraged during my shows.

  • I believe in Theater of the Fabulous. Theater of the Fabulous is aesthetically gorgeous; the cast and their performances are fierce, effeminate, powerful; the audience is engaged in a manner where response feels natural; and there is a uncompromising queer sensibility pulsating through each element of the production.

  • I love anything that is Genre-Defying, Form-Bending, Non-traditional, Non-Normative. But I can also be down for a simple, gorgeous and traditionally-structured story, too.

  • Iā€™m cool with Contemporary Classic Work (only if i can fuck around with it).

  • I prioritize casting queer actors for queer roles AND BIPOC actors.

HALLMARKS OF MY WORK

  • Big Vision.

  • Pared down, ensemble-driven staging.

  • Live singing/music in lieu of recorded music (She loves a siiiiinger!).

  • Aesthetically captivating and always driven by narrative.

  • Boldly integrating the audience into the experience.
